Medical Council of Canada
The Medical Council of Canada offers several examinations to help Canadian and international medical graduates and physicians become eligible to practice in Canada.Click on the link for more info

There are four jurisdictions where the standards for accreditation of postgraduate family medicine training are judged comparable and acceptable to the CFPC. Approved jurisdictions with equivalent accreditation standards for family medicine training include:

  • United States of America: Graduates of family medicine residency programs that have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
  • Australia: Graduates of Australian General Practice Vocational Training programs that have been accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and meet the standards of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
  • Ireland: Graduates of general practice vocational training schemes that have been accredited by the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP)
  • United Kingdom: Graduates of general practice vocational training programs that have been accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC) and who meet the standards of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)

If someone has completed their medical training somewhere other than Canada or one of these four jurisdictions, then they must meet the requirements available at to sit the exam.



International Medical Graduate Committee

Mission Statement

As a standing committee of the Manitoba College of Family Physicians, the International Medical Graduate Committee will support internationally trained medical doctors (IMG’s) to integrate effectively and equitably into Manitoba’s healthcare system and Manitoba Communities.


  1. To embrace the diversity of cultures represented in the Manitoba IMG community;
  2. To act as a portal to information for IMG’s who are starting to work in the Manitoba health care system;
  3. To be a support for IMG’s and their families as the integrate into Manitoba Communities.

This committee is chaired by Dr. Deirdre O’Flaherty.
