Tax season is here. We are asking physicians to prescribe “file your income taxes” to patients. In order to access health care benefits such as pharmacare and the Canada Child Benefit, you must file your income taxes every year. We know the links between health and poverty. Please help Canadians access the existing government benefits. Free income tax centres are available to those on low incomes.
In a recent year, over $1.2 million or cost of benefits was returned to 29,370 Manitobans living on low incomes. This work was done by 590 volunteers through free Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) sites across urban and rural Manitoba. Please prescribe filing income taxes to your patients! It can help many!
